Our Green Ribbon Tribute With Jim's passing we have lost one of the true icons of and champions for Peoria. While we are saddened by the loss, his spirit will live on in the hundred - if not thousands - of people he has inspired over the decades. That's why we are sharing Our Green Ribbon Tribute: to commemorate this man who wanted everyone around him to succeed - especially the city he loved so much. So when you see those little green ribbons, we hope you will be reminded of all the big - and little - things Jim has done to help countless others succeed. Please share your stories about Jim Maloof here.

Henry Lawrence - Peoria

(1) I first met Jim when I was an announcer at WMBD 1470. He used to call me and comment on things I said on the air.
He started his real estate company in 1969, and he helped us find our first house.
When he decided to start the St. Jude Telethon, he asked me to serve on the committee. My involvement with St. Jude continued for many years culminating with two years as President of the Midwest Affiliate.
Then, Jim decided to run for Mayor because he believed the city needed new leadership. He served three terms. BJ and I chaired his third-term re-election campaign. It should have been easy, but controversial claims popped up in the middle of the campaign. Jim never wavered, but stayed on a steady course with hundreds of friends supporting him.
During his years as Mayor, he and I used to have early-morning phone conversations about issues. I can’t say that I was a major advisor, but he bounced ideas off of me.
I spent my last several years of my Caterpillar career in Corporate Real Estate. Jim kept asking me to retire and join his real estate firm in the Commercial Division. Those years working for him taught me so much. He had an uncanny perception of how to advertise and how to match the right buyers with the right properties.
Thank you, Jim for all you have taught me and all of the opportunities your friendship has afforded me in the last 45 years. I will miss you, my friend. You were my second father.
