Jim Maloof
Oct. 18, 1919 - Jan. 19, 2013

Our Green Ribbon Tribute With Jim's passing we have lost one of the true icons of and champions for Peoria. While we are saddened by the loss, his spirit will live on in the hundred - if not thousands - of people he has inspired over the decades. That's why we are sharing Our Green Ribbon Tribute: to commemorate this man who wanted everyone around him to succeed - especially the city he loved so much. So when you see those little green ribbons, we hope you will be reminded of all the big - and little - things Jim has done to help countless others succeed. Please share your stories about Jim Maloof here.

Angie Perrilles - West Peoria

(1) I was fortunate to get to know Jim Maloof on the St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run. During my first several years on the Run, he would ride down in the motorhomes with us and would stay until Thursday so he could get back to Peoria to get ready for the telethon on Saturday. You really get to know somebody when 'living' in a motorhome with 10 other people!! He was every part of the run...a leader, a motivator, a shoulder to lean on, a jokester, and even a runner!

During a downtime while waiting for runners to come in, I watched him play football with several young guys in their 20's; Jim was a mere 81!! He never missed an opportunity to be involved and share in people's lives. He made everyone feel special and important and never forgot a name or face! People mattered to him!

After learning that I do physical therapy, Jim always made me massage and stretch his neck and feet!! "Rub my neck! Now my feet!" Sometimes he would just look at me and point to his neck!! It was a privilege to give him a little bit of comfort knowing how much he comforted others.

My sympathies go to Jan, Michael and Nick for the loss of such a wonderful man. My gratitude is sent as well for sharing this special man with the rest of us!! He will truly be missed. Always loved. Never forgotten!

I know Trudy welcomed him with open arms as well as Danny Thomas and St. Jude. I know God said to him, "Job well done, Jim!" and Jim lead everyone in song!

Rest in eternal peace, Dear Jim! You have earned it!
