Our Green Ribbon Tribute With Jim's passing we have lost one of the true icons of and champions for Peoria. While we are saddened by the loss, his spirit will live on in the hundred - if not thousands - of people he has inspired over the decades. That's why we are sharing Our Green Ribbon Tribute: to commemorate this man who wanted everyone around him to succeed - especially the city he loved so much. So when you see those little green ribbons, we hope you will be reminded of all the big - and little - things Jim has done to help countless others succeed. Please share your stories about Jim Maloof here.

In 1999 and 2000, the Peoria Ballet was experiencing enormous challenges. As the General Manager of the organization during that time, I can attest to the fact that there was reason to believe that the Peoria Ballet might not survive. Jim Maloof was instrumental in saving this institution that continues to enrich the lives of aspiring dancers and their audiences to this day.
During the worst of it, Jim would call me at least once a week to say "We are gonna get through this. You guys are doing a great job and I am behind you 100 percent." And he was! I would let Jim know of a particular need and he always knew someone who would help with financial or in-kind support. The dancers and their parents adored Mr. Maloof who was ever-faithful in attending their performances.
Years later my own daughter became a professional ballerina and two male dancers also achieved that dream due in no small part to the excellent training they received at the Peoria Ballet. They and the hundreds of other dancers whose lives have been enriched by dance owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jim Maloof.
On a personal level, I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend. He remains an inspiration and powerful mentor to this day.
